Help us fight fraud! SSA's Office of Program Integrity is searching for two new hires to help SSA detect and prevent fraud by performing data analysis and research using a variety of analytical techniques such as statistical modeling, machine learning, and/or geospatial analysis.
Duties
Serves as a Data Analyst (Data Scientist) leading and coordinating the efforts of other agency professionals and contractors in solving complex and far-reaching data management issues and problems.
Conducts statistical analyses and develops predictive models using statistical techniques, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI), using tools such as R, Python or SAS.
Works with teams to develop data products and definitions. Use appropriate analytic and statistical software to programmatically prepare data for analysis and clean imperfect data.
Conducts observational analyses using software and/or programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL to explore/group data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions.
Develops, integrates, and maintains data and extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures that are logically sound, maintainable, sustainable, auditable, flexible, repeatable, and scalable on a variety of structured and unstructured data
Translates complex concepts, findings, and limitations into concise, plain language.
Serves as a resource and leader to Federal and contractor staff on implementing, managing, tracking, and evaluating large scale and extremely complex data analysis projects and their associated requirements and risks.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

To qualify for the GS-14: the applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include providing technical expertise and direction in developing and refining studies involving large datasets and statistical or machine learning analytical techniques and processes. Experience must also include transforming unprocessed, incomplete, or unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL; AND preparing research reports, technical papers, guidelines, or instructions for technical and non-technical audiences.
