Duties

This position is located within the Mission Readiness Operations (MRO) of United States Border Patrol (USBP). In this position you will have an opportunity to assist with and carry out a wide variety of administrative, management, and program planning activities; policy research; and other duties related to the missions and functions of the MRO. This position starts at a salary of $49,906.00 (GS-7, Step 1) to $79,357.00 (GS-9, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. This position involves the employee assisting in providing direct advice and guidance to U.S. Border Patrol employees at offices throughout the sector, and developing new and modified administrative program work methods, approaches, and procedures for delivering effective customer service. Your major duties and responsibilities will include: Assisting higher-graded specialists in entering actions into human resources automated systems and other position management tools. Assisting higher-graded specialists and the supervisor with monitoring base pay, premium pay, overtime, and leave entitlements and administration. Preparing reports with data from internal data sources as well as CBP automated systems for regular and one-time informational needs by senior managers. Participating in special studies and analytical projects related to current and proposed organization and program initiatives and gathering necessary information in order to prepare briefing materials for the supervisor and other senior management officials. Performing a range of general mission support-related duties, such as assisting higher-graded specialists with scheduling of travel and training, organizing the logistical elements of MRO's work (such as access to vehicles), reviewing budget spreadsheets, filing documents pertinent to the procurement of acquisitions, and serving as a point of contact for the headquarters and sector office staff on issues facing the office.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting managers in developing new and updated position descriptions in conjunction with employees in the Office of Human Resources Management (HRM) Preparing informational packages for senior management which may include electronic files and staffing reports Coordinating with the supervisor and staff to ensure receipt of documents and that actions arecompleted in a timely manner Reviewing budget spreadsheets, filing documents pertinent to the procurement of acquisitions Education Substitution GS-07: Graduate Education. Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work {optional text to include based on consulting with program office, such as: list degrees}. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required. It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits. Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision. Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Monitoring vacancies by assisting higher-graded specialists in entering actions into human resources automated systems and other position management tools Assisting higher-graded specialists and the supervisor with monitoring base pay, premium pay, overtime, and leave entitlements and administration Participating in special studies and analytical projects related to current and proposed organization and program initiatives Compiling, analyzing, summarizing, presenting, and providing advice and recommendations pertaining to workforce needs, objectives, activities, and accomplishments Education Substitution GS-09:A Master's degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/25/2024.
