Duties
In this position, the incumbent will be providing direct vessel traffic management services as a Vessel Traffic Control Specialist in a Coast Guard Traffic Center. Incumbent is also responsible for promoting the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic in assigned geographic area.

Qualifications
To Qualify for the GS-11 Grade Level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, or abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience must include the following:
Working in a commercial transportation facility or terminal utilizing Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of maritime vessels to perform duties.
Assisting in promoting the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic in assigned geographic areas.
Ensuring that vessel traffic is properly informed, advised, or directed in order to reduce the probability of collisions, rammings, groundings, and ensuing environmental damage.
Assisting in monitoring the progress of vessels, and informing, advising, or directing vessel operators in assigned areas.
Maintaining a readiness posture to ensure traffic can be brought under positive control to avoid a catastrophic incident.
Employing computer and communications technology to provide critical information and guidance to a master, pilot, or person in charge of vessels.
OR
Have successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
