Duties

The incumbent performs instructional duties independently and makes suggestions for course modification that are primarily procedural. Exercises knowledge of the procedures and techniques involved in carrying out the work of the organization and applies procedures in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56. Develops and updates lesson plans for short repetitive courses or assigned units of a longer course. Follows daily lesson plans, deviating only for unavoidable circumstances. Prepares and administers formal and informal tests or quizzes. Reviews course material to ensure currency, adequacy, and accuracy of course documents. Incumbent also mentors new employees working within prescribed limitations on the use of detention authority and the use of force (including weapons) according to circumstances encountered during the performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to undergo and pass a complete medical physical, at government facility at government expense and must also undergo this requirement annually.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. This is a drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Initial and annual in-service security guard training.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil actions due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the detention of individuals.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of the Physical Agility Test (PAT) IAW AR 190-56.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Incumbent must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of deadly force, anti-/counter-terrorism, first aid, firearms, search and seizure, security operations and enforcement.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • Moderate to Heavy lifting up to 50lbs.
  • TDY business travel is up to 25%.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.

Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
