You will serve in an INTERDISCIPLINARY position as the Common Hypersonics Glide Body (CHGB) Chief Engineer in the Flight Systems Branch of the Conventional Prompt Strike - CPS PROGRAM OFFICE.

Duties

You will oversee the Unit’s activities in developing and defining overall CPS weapon system performance and reliability requirements into requirements for the missile system's components. You will provide technical guidance of the Unit's efforts in the design, development, and test of CPS System components to assure that all performance and reliability requirements and schedules are met. You will provide technical guidance the Unit’s design for its hardware throughout the entire service life of the missile components. You will oversee the unit's efforts in monitoring the performance and reliability of deployed components. You will ensure that integrated and coordinated plans are established for the development, test, qualification, and documentation of the missile's components to meet these requirements within the overall weapon system schedule and budget limitations. You will prepare and review respective contract documentation and provide appropriate and timely interpretation of such documents. You will provide overall guidance and direction for the Safety, Performance, Quality, Reliability, Maintainability programs to assure proper coordination of branch activities. You will interpret DOD, DOT/OSD, Navy and SSP directives, policies, objectives and agreements in order to establish implementing policies and programs and to provide local guidelines regarding execution of such programs.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-3 (GS-13 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer providing expertise in aerospace and weapon design, development, and testing to resolve impacting issues (e.g. technical, schedule, or cost problems) to improve Advanced Capabilities and transition of capabilities for a Weapon System or defense program. Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

08XX- Professional Engineering Series:

Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics;

OR

Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. 1310 Physics Series:

A degree in physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1320 Chemistry Series:

A degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; or a combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education

OR

1501- General Mathematics and Statistics Series:

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position; OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science) plus additional education or appropriate experience.
