This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Remove, replace, tighten, splice, solder, and insulate defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, and damaged light fixtures.
Install and repair electrical systems in buildings, offices, or shops.
Perform limited assignments in support of the installation or repair of complex industrial electrical systems.
Receive work orders, oral instructions, and wiring diagrams that indicate the nature of the repair or installation to be made, the layout and placement of circuitry, fixtures, and controls, and the type of wiring, parts, and equipment installed.
Locate broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through using a small variety of test equipment (e.g. test lamps, voltage testers; ammeters, and polarity testers).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
- Employee is required to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirement for the vehicle type being operated.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40lbs. in the regular performance of duties
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrical Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Electrical Worker duties. Perform tasks such as replacing electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, breakers and using common connectors on simple circuits, in various types of commercial facilities, using electrical tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills and test equipment such as volt meters, multimeters, and ammeters. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort - Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Employees will be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds), and less often up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). The employee will be required to move moderately heavy objects (more than 18 kilograms) with assistance.
???????Working Conditions - Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee will be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of up to 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. Employee is exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Employee may be required to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hat, respirators, gloves, and safety shoes.
