This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position performs routine and common types of electrical repairs for the Directorate of Public Works.
Duties
Operate and install a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment.
Apply designated safety procedures to all aspects of work.
Interpret and apply various codes to various designs and drawings to ensure safety measures are met.
Determine size, type, gauge or wiring, coupling, conduits, relays, etc.
Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, load and test new and installed equipment including secondary distribution lines and circuits.
Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, maintenance and repair manuals.
Effect necessary repairs and modifications.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Drivers License.
- This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
- This position requires occasional travel up to 10%.
- The employee will be required to successfully pass pre-employment and annual physical examinations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electrician (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Replacing electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, breakers and using common connectors on simple circuits; using electrical tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills and test equipment such as volt meters, multimeters, ammeters under general supervision, which is subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Employees will be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds), and less often up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). The employee will be required to move moderately heavy objects (more than 18 kilograms) with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee will be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of up to 100 feet or less; and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. Employee is exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Employee may be required to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hat, respirators, gloves, and safety shoes.
