The position is located in the Facility Management Department of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) In North Chicago Illinois.
Duties
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Checks equipment for worn or broken parts, disassembling, cleaning all parts, making the necessary mechanical repairs, adjustments or replacements.
Makes minor and major repairs to all laundry equipment such as air compressors, mangles, folders, dryers, washers, extractors, tying machines, various types of steam presses, electric hoists and small laundry trucks.
Fabricates special parts by laying out scribing line, arcs and circles, angles and tapers from working drawings.
Maintains other equipment such as gasoline pumps, electric operated saws, planers, shapers and jointers.
Performs such steam fitting and plumbing duties as replacing nipples, flexible steam hose on steam presses, cutting threading pipe, replacing air lines on presses and extractors and any other duties that may be assigned.
Must exercise extreme care not to damage machinery that is being repaired.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Qualifications
May be required to operate a government-owned motor vehicle in performance of assigned job tasks; therefore, incumbent must possess upon entrance for duty, a valid state driver's license and in addition, must be able to maintain a valid state driver's license at all times while employed in this position. Failure to maintain a valid state driver's license may result in termination from federal employment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:
Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads (weighing up to 50 pounds), stooping, climbing, standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, etc. Often times works in cramped spaces which involve muscular strength and sustained physical efforts. May be required to work at variable heights to accomplish assigned tasks. Full use of arms, hands and legs is required to enable incumbent to accomplish these physical demands. Good hearing, corrected with an aid and good eyesight, corrected with glasses, are required to enable incumbent to perform a satisfactory job.
Incumbent will be subject to working in varying temperatures between working in poorly ventilated areas or, at times, under inclement outdoor weather conditions. Majority of work will he performed inside buildings. Hazards include the possibility of electrical shock and burns; injuries to skin, eyes and lungs from refrigerants, gases, chemicals and solvents; and danger of cuts, scratches and bruises from use of various tools while working in cramped quarters, Incumbent will also be exposed to dust, foul odors, dampness and the hazards of power machinery during performance of daily work assignments. May also be subject to falls from ladders/scaffolds during performance of duties.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
