About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Perform a variety of clerical and administrative functions designed to improve the administrative and clerical management of the Brigade Tactical Department (BTD). Maintain appointment schedule for the Brigade Tactical Officer (BTO) and the Brigade Executive Officer (BXO). Obtain office supplies from required sources based upon requests from the department. Manage and update a variety of digital databases and records, such as, the Automated Management System (AMS). Use Defense Travel System (DTS) to make travel arrangements and prepare claims vouchers. Coordinate and assist with events, activities, and programs related to Cadet and Tactical Officer (TAC) Team development. Assist in the management of military and civilian awards, evaluations, and counseling’s for the Director and Deputy Director rating scheme.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as, Business Administration, Management, or another related field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Applies Technology to TasksCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages and Organizes InformationOrganizational Awareness Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
