This position is in the ATO, Safety and Technical Training Service Unit, Policy and Performance Directorate, Safety Performance Group, AJI-3400. This group uses scientific knowledge and data analysis methods to understand and mitigate risk and improve human performance safety and efficiency across the operational system.

Duties

The Human Factors Scientist applies experience and advanced technical knowledge of scientific principals related to human factors, industrial/organizational psychology, safety and training to assists more experience scientist in the development of plans and techniques to improve programs and policies. Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under limited direction of the manager, to assist senior scientists in the integration of human factors into the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by updating and prioritizing risk mitigation strategies. This work is a critical area of human performance and directly affects the safe and efficient operation of the National Airspace System (NAS).

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-H, FG/GS-12 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IS DEFINED AS:Experience collecting and analyzing human factors and civil aviation performance data to identify problems.You should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history. Degree: Behavioral or Social Science (or related disciplines appropriate to the position); or a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
