This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Policy and Research Branch, Consumer Research and Analytics Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and plans, organizes, designs, conducts, presents, and publishes sophisticated empirical studies of banking and financial services programs.

Duties
Serve as a research specialist for issues relating to depositor and consumer protection (consumer protection), including community development and economic inclusion topics.
Provide leadership on issues of the highest importance to the Corporation involving consumer protection.
Conduct research, analyses, and evaluation of various FDIC internal operations, to solve urgent, long-range, practical problems of the Corporation and to provide empirically-based advice and counsel used in planning and changing internal programs of the Corporation.
Disseminate original research findings through FDIC-sponsored and external peer-reviewed publications; presentations at internal and external events such as competitive conferences.
Conduct sophisticated empirical studies of banking and financial services programs, regulatory measures, as well as depositor and consumer experiences, capabilities, knowledge, and preferences to provide information for use by the Corporation in studying possible changes in regulatory measures and resource allocations.
Studies may include economic analyses, spatial analyses, behavioral analyses, or analyses of social processes such as agent-based modelling.
Build and maintain professional relationships with external researchers addressing depositor and consumer protection issues and related regulatory, banking and financial services issues.
Provide advice, mentoring and assistance to other FDIC research staff as well as general consulting and research support to help the Corporation accomplish mission critical functions, including the Division’s fair lending and other examination functions.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Applicants MUST submit a copy of their official college transcripts from an accredited educational institution, which reflects that a behavioral or social science or equivalent degree was conferred and the date conferred. You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirements listed above, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14 grade level or above in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as having planned, organized, designed, conducted, presented, and published sophisticated empirical studies of banking and financial services programs, financial regulatory measures, as well as depositor and consumer financial experiences, capabilities, knowledge, and preferences.
