About the Position: As a Public Safety Dispatcher the incumbent will provide emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering 911 calls, and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.

Duties

Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Monitor computerized fire alarm systems and other alarm systems such as Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (ICIDS) alarm systems. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, telephones, radios, and station alerting systems. Provide initial Incident Command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You may be subject to a Secret security clearance or a NACI background check as determined by the location.
  • Within 16 weeks from the date of employment, incumbent will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
  • Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
  • Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
  • Incumbent must be a qualified typist. (40 wpm).
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
  • The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines if selected for a location that requires drug testing.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
  • Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
  • Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass IAW with predetermined course requirements.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
