Employee will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator located within the Northern California Healthcare System in Redding, CA.
Duties
Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Drives, maintains, and cares for all types of vehicles such as passenger cars, patient transport vehicles, wheelchair vans, and trucks up to and including one and a half tons.
Transports patients, employees, lab specimens, and materials safely between various destinations.
Ensures that all required accident forms, bridge tickets, and manuals are maintained in the vehicle.
Completes vehicle daily maintenance checks, including fuel, oil, water, automatic transmissions, instruments, horn, brakes, and any leaks.
Reads and interprets road maps to determine the shortest and quickest route to and from destination.
Properly loads and unloads vehicles so as to not injure patients or damage cargo.
Performs other related duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 6:00am - 2:30pm, may include weekends and holidays.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work requires long periods of driving, lifting, and normal dexterity. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of patients. Must be able to help non-ambulatory patients from vehicles, wheelchairs, or gurneys, which may require considerable physical exertion, since some patients are debilitated or paralyzed. Patients must be moved correctly while using proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
Required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic, weather, and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading or unloading vehicles.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.
The SPF for this position is: Requires a valid and current Class A or B state Driver's License with both passenger and air brake endorsements. (We cannot accept photographs; therefore, Do Not provide a copy of your Driver's License. This requirement will be verified during interview.)

SCREEN-OUT: Requires the ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Experience includes driving various types of vehicles (passenger cars, vans, trucks) to transport passengers and/or supplies/cargo; safely loading and unloading vehicles; reading/interpreting road maps; and performing preventive maintenance on vehicles.
