You will serve as a WELDER SUPERVISOR in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be planning the assignments of personnel, using equipment, facilitating scheduling qualifications and training and developing specialized skills and procedures. You will be providing higher-level supervisors with written and verbal status. You will be scheduling, coordinating and directing the accomplishment of work projects or operation in accordance with project needs and schedules. You will be developing or providing input to develop processes and procedures for accomplishing the work. You will be promoting and administering management programs such as safety, employee ideas, quality assurance, productivity improvement, cost reduction, and energy conservation.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: *Using a variety of welding processes to weld metal piping, boilers, pressure vessels, castings, forgings, equipment, of all types of metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. *Consulting on difficult situations regarding flame and arc cutting, setting up and operating inert gas purge equipment, and laying out and cutting steel in close tolerances. *Determining sequence, priorities, and deadlines of scheduled assignments. *Estimating material, equipment, and manpower needs. *Developing and implementing work and safety procedures. *Executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, deciding conduct related matters; and supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.
