The Assistant Chief serves as a full deputy to the Housekeeping Officer, substantially sharing all technical and managerial responsibilities. The Incumbent is responsible to the Service Chief forthe planning, conducting and managing effectively an entire environmental management program.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Evaluates new policies and directives to determine the impact on a service line. Makes decisions and actions that have substantial impact on program objectives, goals, funding, scheduling, organizational structure, and allocation of resources. Evaluates work completed by subordinates for completion, timeliness, and accomplishment of objectives by accepting, amending, or rejecting work as appropriate. Makes decisions on work problems presented by employees. Maintains discipline, handles employee dissatisfaction, and instructs and trains employees in service by counseling and encouraging them in their personal growth through in-service training, on-the-job training, and outside educational opportunities. Identifies and develops the training needs of employees and provides and/or arranges training to meet development needs. Assures reasonable equity of performance standards and rating techniques developed of the adequacy of employee capabilities or of employee-completed work. Develops performance standards, evaluates performance, and prepares performance appraisals, and meets with subordinates to discuss and review performance. Develops and administers a formal, systematic internal review plan for reviewing and appraising the effectiveness of each phase of service line activities. Identifies and develops data required for use in the management and direction of programs. Analyzes and reports findings to management of internal review plans. Analyzes the broad implications of higher levels of authority, laws, regulations, policies, as well as managerial, administrative, and technical trends. Analyzes new or proposed legislation, directives, or measures affecting a service line to determine the impact on operations, funding, workload, and resources. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience performing or assisting in performing the specialized technical duties associated with planning, directing, managing and monitoring all aspects of an environmental management program in a healthcare/hospital setting. ~AND~ Specialized experience must also include experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer position: Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. Experience in laundry and linen management. Experience in interior design management. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
