The Resources, Science and Industry Division of the Congressional Research Service is seeking an Analyst in Science and Technology Policy with a focus on emerging technology and advanced computing policy.

Duties

The analyst will cover a wide range of science and technology policy, especially related to emerging technology and advanced computing policy. An understanding of the origins, history, and evolution of policy regarding sensing and intelligent systems, including their data and applications, and the related federal and societal policy concerns and associated legislative policy issues are key skills for the position. The analyst will collaborate with other CRS staff, as necessary, to consider how a variety of policy initiatives might affect the programs, how the tradeoffs between supporting innovation and potential regulation might affect federal policy, and the appropriate role of the federal government with respect to private-sector data collection and related privacy concerns. The ideal candidate will demonstrate ability to develop expertise in new areas.

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Knowledge of science and technology policy** Ability to analyze public policy issues** Ability to write in a public policy context** Ability to convey analysis and information orally through briefings, consultations and other presentations Ability to work collaboratively with others Ability to exercise objectivity in all phases of analysis and consultation Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing
