About the Position: Serves as an accountant responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations. Provides management officials professional accounting advice and assistance related to the impact of financial transactions on program operations. This position will be located in St. Louis, MO and will allow for situational telework only. This position is NOT eligible for Full Time telework.

Duties

Conducts complex studies and analyses of accounting operations and furnishes accounting and financial statements, reports, and other accounting information. Actively participates in decision-making sessions with operating program managers. Provides interpretations of accounting reports, statements, and other accounting data reflecting the interrelationships between accounting, budgeting, and other management data. Estimates or predicts the effects of proposed changes in the operating programs. Monitors unfavorable trends or deviations and suggests necessary corrective actions. Develops innovative solutions for solving specialized problems not covered by detailed guidelines or procedures. Establishes and maintains liaison with operating and management officials. Serves as liaison with higher headquarters in matters pertaining to implementation of new procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Financial Management Level 2 Certified position designated as such in accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012.

Basic Requirement for the Accountant (GS-0510) Qualifications for GS-12 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 or grade level in the Federal service which includes interpreting accounting information to maintain compliance with overarching rules, regulations, or policies; providing financial accounting services to management and stakeholders; and identifying and/or resolving financial management problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12 level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accounting AnalysisConcepts, Policies and Principles of AccountingFundamentals & Operations of AccountingLeadershipOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
