You will serve as an AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST (TERMINAL) in the OPERATIONS DIVISION MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.

Duties

You will conduct On The Job Training (OJT) with student air traffic controllers, ensuring safe, proper application of service while instructing the students in techniques and procedures. You will coordinate and supervise the control of aircraft operating within Miramar's Class Bravo airspace and aircraft and vehicular traffic operating on runways, taxiways, and other designated areas of the airfield. You will determine the primary runway based upon published procedures, air traffic volume, airport surface condition, and prevailing weather. You will maintain continual operation of the airport movement surfaces to ensure pedestrian, vehicle, and aircraft compliance with operating rules. You will coordinate the arrival or departure instructions issued between the Control Tower, Radar Final Controller, or Arrival/Departure Controller.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Air traffic control specialists must possess the facility ratings required at the facility where the position is located. You will be required to maintain a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Control air traffic for busy and complex Federal Airspace for military and civilian air traffic (control tower and radar); manage the administration work of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility; formulate and coordinate facility flight check requirements for navigational aids, radar and radio communications equipment; plan and facilitate ATC training activities; and advise facility on compliance with FAA standards. GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Maintain continual operation of airport movement for a military and civilian air traffic facility (control tower and radar); process the administration work of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility; record facility flight check requirements for navigational aids, radar and radio communications equipment; assist with ATC training activities; and verify facility compliance with FAA standards.
