The purpose of this position is to perform radiological diagnostic technical operations for general imaging and computerized axial tomography using state of the art equipment in assisting the medical and clinical diagnosis of patients. This position is located in the Chinle Service Unit, Division of Clinical Services, Radiology (Imaging Services) Department, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Performs general routine to complex ionizing radiation and computerized tomography (CT) imaging of the head and body for all standardized and special examinations such as IVP, Barium swallows, Cryptogram's and Gallbladders or for a variety of 500+ standard radiographic procedures safely.
Receives and prepares patients, explains procedures and transfers patient to table for examination.
Confers with radiologists to establish requirements for non-standardized examinations, appropriate targeting techniques and/or other deviation to perform a complete examination.
Monitors injection (power-injector) and recognizes complications of infiltration, contraction reaction, etc.
Assists with emergency first-aid and initiates CPR when a cardiac arrest occurs if required.
Applies ionizing radiation and other forms of energy under direction of a radiologist and or supervisor.
Recognizes and describes equipment malfunctions and contacts appropriate service/repair engineers.
Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis by photo-timer exposures or various selector exposures.
Participates in teaching programs and In-services as required by service unit.
Maintains x-rays file folders, check-out files for quality assurance records, reviews operation policy manuals and other materials.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
All applicants, however, must meet the requirements below.
Specialized experience: For positions at GS04 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment.
Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Computed Tomography.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS08 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assisting with general routine to complex ionizing radiation and computer tomography imaging. Receiving and preparing patients, explaining procedures and transferring patient to table for examination. Assisting physician and radiologists in administering opaque media. Providing proper lead shield protection for radiographic examinations. Maintaining a sterile environment to prevent cross-contamination. Scanning and developing exposed imaging cassettes. Performing limited technical radiology test for preventative maintenance.
GS09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing general routine to complex ionizing radiation and computer tomography imaging. Recognizing standard targeting techniques for each examination. Performing intravenous cannulation for intravenous contrast injections. Notifying radiologist of any significate changes as required by the procedure or patient condition. Applying ionizing radiation and other forms of energy under direction of a radiologist. Making minor adjustments to equipment. Evaluating requests for critical or emergency procedures.
