This position is located in the Optometry Clinic, Tsaile Health Center, Tsaile, Arizona. This is a developmental position with career progression. Assignments are selected to broaden the employee's ability, skills and knowledge for the target level work (GS-07). Employee receives training and progressively more complex assignments to develop technical skills and gain experience towards performance at the full career level of GS-07.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: Candidate must have had 26 weeks of general experience and 26 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level to qualify for the GS-04 grade level GS-05: Candidate must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level to qualify for the GS-05 grade level. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that typically in or relation to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. GS-04: Examples include patient screening and auxillary ophthalmic testing, optical dispensary, patient education, receptionist/clerical duties. GS-05: Examples include perform tests assigned by Optometrist; assist with eyewear selection, measurement, ordering, verification, adjusting or repairing; instruct eye health education including proper use of ocular pharmacoloogical agents. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: GS-04: Successfully completed two years above high school with courses related to the occupation. GS-05: Successfully completed four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Navajo Language Speaking and Interpretation. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Education

There are no education requirements. However, you may substitute your education for experience. Submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
