This position is located in the Optometry Clinic, Tsaile Health Center, Tsaile, Arizona. This is a developmental position with career progression. Assignments are selected to broaden the employee's ability, skills and knowledge for the target level work (GS-07). Employee receives training and progressively more complex assignments to develop technical skills and gain experience towards performance at the full career level of GS-07.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Such experience would include: Schedules appointments and effectively uses electronic health record and electronic appointment scheduling system. Conducts patient interviews & chart reviews; enters information into electronic health record; conducts patient optometric screenings; administers medication as directed for eye examinations.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Such experience would include: Verifies glasses prescriptions to meet ANSI standards and perform simple spectacle frame adjustments and repairs. Performs blood pressure testing via sphygmomanometer, random blood sugar evaluation, and temperature reading as requested by eye care professional. Proficient in advanced clinical skills, which includes retinoscopy, basic slit lamp examination skills, and Goldman tonometry. Performed selected eye care tests while understanding the protocol without direct supervision, assistance, or intervention from the eye care professional.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
GS-06/07: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Navajo Language Speaking and Interpretation.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Education
There are no education requirements. However, you may substitute your education for experience. Submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package.
