About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Exec. Hospital Safety at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia. Incumbent will protect personnel and prevent the damage or loss of property within the facility and surrounding property.
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veterans' preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
Maintain records and prepares required reports pertaining to security functions, including a daily staff journal.
Maintain continued surveillance over areas within the facility.
Investigate abnormal conditions and incidents possibly detrimental to hospital property, patients, visitors, and staff.
Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted areas which contain hazardous materials that could affect public health or public safety, or that contain controlled substances.
Conduct internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinics, parking lots, and grounds as assigned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions, pass a character investigation, and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions, and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires you to be able to qualify semi-annually with assigned firearm and carry a firearm; as well as may require proficiency in oleoresin capsicum (OC) pepper spray/foam.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- This position may require incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and a uniform. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services to preserve peace and order; utilizing law enforcement equipment such as: restraining devices (handcuffs), safety equipment (L.C., fire extinguishers), two way communication devices, and motor vehicle to restrain individuals, communicate with emergency personnel, and patrol around the facility; conducting motorized and foot patrols of assigned locations; and completing security reports to document shift activity. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
