Duties

This Industrial Equipment Mechanic is assigned to the Preventive Maintenance Unit (PM) of the Engineering Service at the Milwaukee, WI VA Medical Center. Major Duties: Lubricates, tests, cleans, adjusts, inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots and shuts down equipment in emergencies for repair. Makes minor repairs to equipment such as pumps, hydraulic lifts, gear reducers, conveyor systems, pneumatic tube system, air handling system, mechanical power transmissions, emergency power generating equipment, gasoline driven engines coupled to pumps and other auxiliary equipment, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, hospital equipment such as rocking beds, motorized beds, iron lungs, patient lifts and other equipment or systems. Recommends actions to the supervisor/leader when systems or equipment problems are such magnitude and urgency that immediate shutdown is required for repair by others. Receives oral and/or written assignments and proceeds to complete without any supervision. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM-8:30 PM and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support, etc.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
