Duties

This Industrial Equipment Mechanic is assigned to the Preventive Maintenance Unit (PM) of the Engineering Service at the Milwaukee, WI VA Medical Center. Major Duties: Lubricates, tests, cleans, adjusts, inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots and shuts down equipment in emergencies for repair. Makes minor repairs to equipment such as pumps, hydraulic lifts, gear reducers, conveyor systems, pneumatic tube system, air handling system, mechanical power transmissions, emergency power generating equipment, gasoline driven engines coupled to pumps and other auxiliary equipment, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, hospital equipment such as rocking beds, motorized beds, iron lungs, patient lifts and other equipment or systems. Recommends actions to the supervisor/leader when systems or equipment problems are such magnitude and urgency that immediate shutdown is required for repair by others. Receives oral and/or written assignments and proceeds to complete without any supervision. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM-8:30 PM and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support, etc.
