The Mail Clerk is a member of the Ambulatory Care & Processing Section which is a part of Health Care Administration Service at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane, WA. The Mail Clerk will organize and administrate how the mail room will operate by planning and directing the day-to-day operational process and function and will provide technical and management guidance necessary to achieve optimum use of the mailroom resources.
Duties
Ability to Read, interpret and follow VHA Policy, Regulations, Manuals, and procedures pertaining to all aspects of metered mail and mail room operations, and related procedures.
Ability to type, edit, and monitor various data points.
Ability to use Computerized Software.
Ability to Coordinate Multiple tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
Ability to set Priorities Effectively.
Ability to Collaborate and Communicate Effectively.
Responsible for monitoring and scheduling maintenance of mailroom and reproduction equipment.
Responsible for Maintaining required supply inventory.
Responsible for Monitoring Metered Mail budget and notifying leadership when required.
Ability to bend, multiple times though out tour; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
Ability To Lift over 45 pounds stand and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work. Ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Identifies problems with Mailroom processes, trouble shoots, and notifies leadership as appropriate.
Identifies problems with Metered Mail Software/Equipment; and contacts appropriate authorities for resolution.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 10/17/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Time-in-Grade Requirement- Applicants may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. For this vacancy, employees under the GS pay system must have held a GS-2 or higher position in the last 52 weeks to be eligible for the GS-4 grade level. If you have not held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks, or are a Wage Grade employee, this requirement does not apply to you. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: You must have at least one (1) year of General Experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, general experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-3, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Qualifying general experience can include: Knowledge of multiple electronic filing systems and current technology regarding scanning and importing, imaging applications, electronic filing system and procedures, including content, arrangement, electronic filing procedures for subject matter, historical and numerical filing systems, cross reference materials accurately and to determine specific assignments for materials, analyze materials by subject-matter content, and perform extensive searches in a context of historical records, decisions on which of several indexes are to be searched, possible errors in indexing within the filing systems. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 2 full years above high school or equivalent degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite . Physical Requirements: Incumbent required to perform work consisting of prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing carts, and lifting mail bins and packages weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with carts and assistance as needed from other facility personnel.
