The primary purpose of this position is to design, install, and support unique airborne instrumentation to generate decision quality data in support of Developmental Test and Evaluation.

Duties

Responsible for the T-2 Modification installation effort from receipt of the aircraft/AME until its release to the tasking activity. Prepares T-2 modification package documentation, coordinates documentation in conjunction with the Systems Engineer (SE) and Aero-mechanical Engineer (AE), ensures the package accurately reflects the installed modification prior to final sign off or temporary release of the aircraft/ AME. Performs as Modification Working Group (MWG) member, responsible for reviewing modification design requirements, generates estimates (estimates man hours required), assists with developing schedules, attends design reviews, reviews documentation required for T-2 modification packages, and oversees the installation phase of modification prior to aircraft/AME being released to support testing. Performs all Group "B" removal actions, documents/updates information with Weight and Balance section in the aircraft Chart "A" book and stores items for re-installation. Enforces and follows all safety, fire and security instructions, ensures classified materials are controlled at all times. Provides Job training for new personal and instructs them in the proper use and care of tools and equipment.

  • Walking, sitting, standing in laboratories, and outdoor facilities.
  • Works at heights of up to 20 feet, requires heavy lifting of 45 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds. Exposed to a variety of noise hazards from jet engines and ground powered units.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) by military or commercial aircraft approximately 30 days per year.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1600/equipment-services-series-1670/ In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-08 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience includes designs, installs, and supports unique airborne instrumentation to generate decision quality data in support of Developmental Test and Evaluation. Manages, coordinates, guides, advises, and trains team members of differing disciplines. Responsible for general housekeeping duties and oversees compliance in the immediate work areas or work sites. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to fabricate, install, schedule and document specialized instrumentation systems. Knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices of specific systems and equipment used in the T-2 modification process to support developmental aircraft/munitions testing. An in-depth knowledge of and experience in aircraft maintenance modification work is highly desirable to include aircraft repair to structures, engine systems, components, and other related systems. Skill in providing technical advice in terms of oral and written briefings, reports, and recommendations to senior leadership and maintenance technicians; and developing interpersonal relationships, maintaining good working relationships, and working cooperatively as a member of a team. A thorough knowledge of airframe principles and practices, structural parameters, capabilities, and limitations of airframe systems and components in correlation with modified airborne and ground instrumentation systems. Ability to perform T-2 modification mechanical installation validation for installed instrumentation systems, and provide estimated time to complete (ETIC) Skill in analyzing and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete aircraft systems. Performs quality control inspections, ensuring deficiencies do not exist in the aircraft or T-2 modified instrumentation systems. Provides on-the-job training, maintains training records and instructs personnel on new or improved methods of performing duties. Ability to plan, organize, and re-prioritize work to meet changing deadlines. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
