Employees at this level are above fully functional as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) and are able to carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRT's in this position work primarily in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Position is that of a radiologic technologist operating the super conductive Magnetic Resonance Scanner (MRI), a highly complex computerized imaging device which employs the use of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images.

The duties of the Lead DRT - MRI in the Diagnostic Imaging service include but are not limited to:
Manages and directs the work of lower grade technologists when examinations/procedures require assistance.
Directs all section schedules in a manner to optimize workflow while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases, rearranging patients to accommodate these requests.
Organizes staff work assignments, including lunch and break rotations.
Training new technologists in all imaging aspects under their direction including specialized cases.
Recommends, coordinates and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols.
Establishes and monitors employee's performance and is responsible for providing input for rating each employee at the end of each rating period and determining competency throughout the year.
Continually evaluate indicators, progress measures, objectives and emphasis areas for attention of operating managers and staff to provide input to develop programs for improvement and compliance.
Ensures MRI section success of all identified Performance measures.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm "Subject to change based upon the needs of the facility"

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable.Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. This position does require advanced ARRT certification in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Education: Applicants must have completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - MRI, GS-0647-10
Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs:
*Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work.
*Ability to resolve informal employee complaints.
*Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures
*Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.
Preferred Experience: Advanced certification by the ARRT in MRI is required. Competencies needed to provide services as DRT team leader.

The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-10.

May be required to wear personal protective equipment and undergo annual TB screening or testing as conditions of employment.
