The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a Teen Program Coordinator and assist the Youth Activities Director with the organizing, planning, and implementing comprehensive teen programs.

Duties

Assists in the planning, implementation, development, coordination, and administration of a military teen activities program which is diversified and serves a participant community of active duty, retired military, reserve forces, authorized civilian employees, and their dependents. Assists in the marketing and publicizing portions of the base youth activities program. Represents the Youth Activities Program with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Assists in arranging for supplies and services needed to accomplish scheduled youth activities.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Subject to required physical examinations, immunizations IAW AFJI 48-110 and local requirement.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist Series 0188 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the range of activities and services, of participant interests and needs, and of the methods and processes involved in a typical and conventional basic youth activities program, which knowledge enables the employee to plan and conduct a variety of youth recreation activities and services. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles, concepts and techniques of programs for youth. Knowledge of program and facility management, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as facility design and equipment selection and purchase. OR EDUCATION: successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in a subject area related to the position to be filled OR I have a bachelor's degree in a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the basic principles, procedures, and practices of operating a youth activities, including health and safety requirements and child abuse identification, reporting and prevention methods. 2. Knowledge of budgeting and accounting procedures including the ability to develop, establish, implement and follow a budget; and skill in preparing forms, schedules, and reports related to program planning and project management. 3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures as relating to various youth activities; and ability to lead and train others. 4. Skill in effective organizing and utilizing all available resources within the program framework. 5. Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and/or evaluating youth activities programs. 6. Ability to communicate with widely diverse individuals and groups both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
