The General Practice Residency (GPR) Director is responsible for the planning and oversight of the General Practice Residency program in the Dental Service. Incumbent also provides direct patient care within the scope of his/her dental clinical privileges and supervises FTEE in the Dental Service laboratory.

Duties

Portland is a port city in the Pacific Northwest and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Oregon. Situated in the northwestern area of the state at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Portland is known for having the amenities of a major city (such as an international airport, an efficient public transit system, major league sports teams and many museums and art galleries) and the charms of a small city (such as plentiful arts and crafts fairs, independent bookstores and local traditions like the annual Rose Festival Parade). Rain or shine, you can take advantage of the city's proximity to nature by playing in the Willamette River, wandering through lush public parks and gardens, biking the city's 162 miles (261 km) of bike lanes and hiking trails both within city limits and in the nearby Columbia River Gorge. The General Practice Residency Director is responsible for the planning and oversight of the General Practice Residency (GPR) program in the Dental Service. Duties include but are not limited to: Directly involved in day-to-day operations, including but not limited to selection of residents. Continual development of the educational program and coordination of the program in compliance with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards. Responsible for conducting meetings with staff dentists and residents to assess progress and performance of the program. Provides direct patient care within the scope of his/her clinical privileges, including but not limited to providing consultation and treatment to patients within the scope of incumbent's specific dental clinical privileges, interpretation of dental radiographs, delivery of diagnostic consultations, providing patient and staff education, and serving on workgroups/committees as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (9 hour shifts available); position takes on-calls Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience, administrative experience in a large (>25 staff), hospital-based dental practice, >5 years experience in clinical dentistry, and experience in management of a graduate dental program. Grade Determinations: Leadership/Manager Positions. Dentist leadership and management positions may be Section Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Service Chiefs, VISN Lead Dentists, Service Line Managers, Central Office Program Positions, Chiefs of Staff, or Directors (i.e., medical center and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN)). Dentists in leadership positions must demonstrate outstanding professional ability in the practice of dentistry or a dental specialty, and healthcare administration, as well as the ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain. These would include, but are not limited to dental practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality and performance improvement. Physical Requirements: This position requires use of fingers; both hands required; standing (6 hours); climbing, (legs only .5 hours); both legs required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted).
