Duties

As the Law Enforcement Coordination Specialist, in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will join a team responsible for carrying out the public safety mission of the Department of Justice and USAO in the Southern District of Mississippi. Typical work assignments for this position include: Serves as an advocate, and focal point, for planning and directing the dissemination of information and resources pertinent to various criminal laws and law enforcement programs designed to effectively enforce them. Coordinates and facilitates the presentation of large conferences and training programs that address law enforcement/criminal justice needs in the district, which are available to federal, state, and local law enforcement, community members and other government agencies or associations that might benefit from the training. Serves as the USAO advisor and program leader on law enforcement and community relations. Provides issue analysis, recommendations, and authoritative advice and guidance, verbally and in writing, to the U.S. Attorney, other executive staff, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys. Initiates, develops, and maintains regular and reoccurring contact with representatives of law enforcement and other public safety agencies, non-profit organizations, government entities, specialist groups, and others to best accomplish the goals of the DOJ and USAO. Participates in the planning and implementation of other district programs and initiatives by coordinating, facilitating, advising, and participating in the design, development, and operations of the program(s). Manages and monitors program funds and ensures that resources are properly allocated and utilized. Serving as a grant-related subject matter expert for the USAO as well as increasing awareness about DOJ grant programs, solicitations and training/technical assistance that will advance training and programs within the district. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Coordinating with and aiding representatives of federal and municipal law enforcement agencies, that are external to the agency, to improve public safety or prevent crime, which may include implementing projects or program activities to reduce violent crime, gun violence, drug and gun trafficking, fraud, and/or human trafficking. Planning community outreach activities in collaboration with community groups and/or representatives of agencies and organizations that provide education, social services, public service, or other similar support. Creating and presenting information orally and in writing to increase awareness and knowledge of law enforcement and individuals in or serving communities, which may include promoting grant programs and no cost training and technical assistance opportunities. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M, if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
