Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing critical legal support to numerous Assistant U.S. Attorney's in the Criminal Division. As a Lead Paralegal Specialist in the Criminal Division, United States Attorney's Office-District of Minnesota (USA-MN), you will:
- Plan and organize the functions, projects, and work assigned to the non-attorney Criminal Division staff.
- Determine the priorities of work and make staff assignments.
- Plan and/or oversee the planning of work schedules and sequence of operations among the Criminal Division support staff team to ensure an even workflow and timeliness in meeting deadlines.
- Develop and oversee on-the-job training in all areas of Criminal Division support staff work, as well as training in new procedures, processes and methods.
- Oversee the timely preparation and assembling of legal correspondence and documents in connection with cases handled in the division and provided quality control of outgoing documents in accordance with court of appeals' requirements.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level as defined below.
Specialized experience is defined as experience performing paralegal or legal work which demonstrates knowledge of legal research and the ability to interpret legal decisions; examining and processing a variety of legal documents; conducting research, analysis, and evaluation of data in response to complex or sensitive requests; drafting briefs, pleadings, litigation recommendations, and other legal documents and correspondence; using a variety of electronic or manual filing systems to acquire and store information; document findings and preparing recommendation; searching and reviewing legal references, case files, and other sources for information and data required by attorneys or court personnel.
