First level supervisor providing planning, direction, organization, and to exercise control over enlisted personnel assigned to the Nuclear Surety Branch. Provides support to the Major Command (MAJCOM) Director of Safety in the development of nuclear surety policy and manages the command's operational nuclear certification program. Evaluates current and future mission requirements for the command and provides nuclear surety policy guidance to subordinate organizations.
Duties
1. As Nuclear Surety Branch Chief; plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Nuclear Surety Branch, AFGSC Weapons Safety Division, ensuring US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Surety policies and practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
3. Serves as the MAJCOM nuclear surety Subject Matter Expert (SME) to plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate activities necessary for the overall management of the AFGSC Nuclear Surety Program Management.
4. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities necessary for the overall management of AFGSC Nuclear Certification Management to include coordination of nuclear certification impact statements (NCIS) to MAJCOM Staff SMEs; to include identifying required operational certification actions.
5. Conducts analysis of FLAGWORD and nuclear surety deficiency investigation reports to ensure proper factors, causes, findings and proposed recommendations are accurate. Prepares and delivers oral presentations and briefings, training sessions, conferences, consultations, and strategy sessions with other MAJCOM and AF-level staff agencies and activities to secure cooperation, resolve controversial issues, and convey information to proposed changes in assigned program(s).

- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes comprehensive knowledge of the body of laws, regulations, policies, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to a broad range of nuclear surety/safety practices, procedures, regulations, methods, techniques, and standards which provide the capability to recommend substantive program changes or alternative new courses of managerial action requiring the extension and modification of current nuclear surety/safety related items. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. In-depth knowledge of nuclear weapons safety concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply safety theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of nuclear certification process, nuclear certification program management, nuclear surety/safety principles, and system software safety as it applies to defense nuclear weapon system operations and capabilities.
3. Skill in assessing and evaluating broad nuclear surety program issues and providing guidance for resolving mission critical problems impacting operations of nuclear weapon systems.
4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and apprise the staff of a small to medium size organization; including ability to effectively apply agency personnel, safety, and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
