This position is located in the Voice of America's Turkish Service. He/she conceives, writes, translates, edits and produces multimedia stories for radio, TV and digital platforms, and promotes content on social media (Face book, Twitter and You Tube). This person must have a proven track record as a journalist with experience writing/adapting stories that are unique. comprehensive, and have global or original appeal.

Duties

As a International Broadcaster, (Multimedia)(Turkish), you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to: Researches, writes. and produces original material including scripts, segments, news reports and interviews for on-air programs and digital distribution. Work is performed at a high standard for the international broadcast market. Incorporates production elements into reports as appropriate, such as visual and audio elements, music, maps, graphics, bulleted highlights, and web-related material. Incorporates Skype sessions, as well as potentially collecting messages from mobile phones, texts, emails, or other social media. Works closely with program hosts to ensure the highest professional standards. Works productively and harmoniously as part of a team. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with VOA/IBB colleagues and also with groups of individuals providing information or interviews for programs. As necessary. reports on special events in Washington and travel as needed to other locations in the United States and beyond to cover important events. Reports from the location live. or Engages the online audience in a conversation by encouraging their comments and selectively responding. Prepares/presents news/feature materials in studio or on location for radio/TV /Face book Live, and other digital platforms. Conceives, plans, researches, organizes and coordinates regularly scheduled news/feature program; selects and schedules guests; plans and prepares topics: and writes scripts. Translates and adapts complex English texts into idiomatic Turkish appropriate for international broadcasting. Also adapts English interviews and tapes for broadcasts as needed. Develops and maintains a variety of sources in the target area. Works with producers in and out of the Turkish Service to secure content. In this connection. uses news feeds and the Internet to locate and research potential stories or reports. As needed, request and coordinates the preparation and encoding of multimedia enhancements. Ensures that copyright restrictions are respected. Has an extensive knowledge of social, political, economic and cultural environment in Turkey, its immediate neighboring countries and the U.S. and is professionally aware of news trends globally. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. National.
  • This is a public trust position. If selected, this position requires the completion of the SF-86.
  • Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a background investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The background investigation may include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.

Qualifications

Screen out factor: Applicant must have native fluency in the Turkish language; and fluency in the English language that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration. Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-11 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience that is typically in or related to conceiving, writing, translating, editing and producing multimedia stories, high-quality television and radio news programming content covering regional and international events on a variety of platforms, i.e., television, radio, web-based and social media platforms for Turkish speaking Turkish audiences. Experience with journalistic principles and techniques. Experience and knowledge of television and radio broadcasting principles and practices. Experience with all phases of television and radio production, programming and editing. Experience producing programming content for both conventional as well as web- based and social media platforms. Experience covering a variety of topics concerning Turkish history and its Turkish speaking target audience(s), their lifestyles, culture, national history, customs, government institutions and policies; an awareness of political, economic, and social developments in the region.

Education is not required for this grade level. It cannot be used for qualification purposes.
