This position is located in Pacific West Region at the Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Park, in the Facilities Management Division. Duties

The incumbent exercises the full range of technical and administrative supervisory duties on a regular and recurring basis for a permanent and temporary workforce. Develops Maintenance Safety Program that addresses the breadth and scope of employee protection and safe work practices including implementing Operational Leadership risk analysis tools such as SPE and GAR. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, programming and implementation of the annual financial plan/operating program for the park-wide road maintenance, hazard tree mitigation, and sign shop operations. Provides recurring and emergency maintenance on approximately 153 miles of paved and unpaved road surface, 2.2 million square feet of paved parking areas, hundreds of regulatory and informational signs. Tracks and reports progress on work assignments and requests authority to adjust staff assignments through the use of overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: The Ability Lead or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) The Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading). ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SUPERVISOR WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (included keeping things neat, clean and in order) Physical Demands: Typical office work is sedentary. Field surveys and inspections may require a considerable amount of walking, bending and climbing and carrying equipment at high elevations. Field visits may require walking, hiking through wooded and active volcanic areas, through lava fields, and on unstable slopes. Travel will include driving automobiles and pickups, and with live stock and air travel in small craft. Performs inspections by hiking front and backcountry trails on a regular basis. Operates heavy equipment from tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently carries, pulls, pushes, lifts equipment or parts that weight up to 50 pounds and at times must lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds .Working Conditions: Work is divided between a typical office environment and field work in the park. Inspections may be performed at high altitudes and during adverse weather. Some site visits may be exposed to safety and health hazards that require the wearing of protective clothing, hard hat and safety shoes, and protective eyewear. Field inspections may involve occasional long-hour workdays. Work outdoors in elevations from sea level to 14,000 feet and in temperatures from 30 to 89 degrees Fahrenheit. Work may be performed in rain, sulphur fumes, during eruptions and earthquakes and storms. May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, dusty, and unpleasant. Will ride in helicopters and with livestock to the summit of the mountains and other areas to inspect. Subject to call for logistics and other support activities during emergencies and work weekends and for extended periods. Travels to training and to other parks in support of their maintenance activities. Shop supervision and mechanic work is performed indoors most of the time.
