Position is located at the Pine Ridge IHS, in Pine Ridge, SD. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership to the nursing personnel in Outpatient Department. Incumbent preforms primary functions of a RN in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients with medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, and newborn conditions. Manages and delegates to all assigned personnel, and promotes team work.

Assesses patient care needs for all patients on the Acute Care Unit; adjusts staff and makes assignments appropriately. Collaborates with the Acute Care Nurse Supervisor, Clinical Director, and/or nursing administration as needed.
Formulates nursing interventions based on appropriately identified nursing diagnosis and in accordance with Acute Care patient care standards.
Develops a plan of care for individual patients identifying problems, and needs of the patient, makes adjustments to the plan of care as needed, evaluates the plan of care on daily basis.
Participates in problem solving to make improvements in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with the staff and nursing administration.
Provides leadership in the implementation of planned changes and activities in improve nursing service.
Qualifications

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assign and monitor the specific duties of nursing personnel. Identify and analyze problems to make well-informed decisions to meet patient care. Assess the patient care needs; adjust staff and collaborate with the Nurse supervisor as necessary. Develop a plan of care for individual patients utilizing nursing diagnosis. Consult with primary care provider and other healthcare professionals on patients to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients. Provide orientation to new employees. Participate and contribute to clinical performance improvement activities. Document observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and patient response to treatment or nursing care.
Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
