Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Headquarters Space Force Command at Tyndall Air Force Base is searching for a Chief of Staff, U.S. Space Forces-U.S. Northern Command (SPACEFOR-NORTH) (NH-0343-04, GS 14/15 equivalent). Description: Enjoy the beautiful Tyndall beaches as the Chief of Staff for the United States Space Force Component to U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). This position is the Senior Civilian in the component, serving a critical function advising and vectoring the growing mission set, while supporting the SPACENORTH Commander and defending the homeland. This position uses critical thinking and leadership to ensure combat-credible space effects, capabilities, services, and subject matter expertise support USNORTHCOM in support of national level objectives. The Chief of Staff establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with the 9 directorates to support members, enhance mission effectiveness, and advise the unit commander regarding personnel, logistics, and communications program oversight and execution. Provides updates weekly to senior leadership regarding status, roadblocks, and solutions for projects and programs. Gives guidance to contractor staff which independently maintain and manage workflow processes for the directorate. The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technology, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred. Experience in a management role, preferably in a government setting. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions based on available information. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. Knowledge of government operations and policies, with the ability to navigate complex bureaucracies and work effectively within a political environment. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong ethics and integrity, with a commitment to transparency and accountability. Top Secret Clearance highly desired; Familiar with Space Domain Awareness, Global Positioning System, Missile Warning, Electronic or Orbital Warfare is desired but not required. Candidate should have experience leading teams to accomplish objectives and bring novel solutions to challenges involving organizational structure and manpower to get the most out of a disaggregated team. Candidate should possess skills to listen and communicate with a wide range of people across roles, geographies, classification levels, and social identities; as well as the ability to understand complex issues and assess risks to make decisions. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Expert knowledge of management planning policies, practices, regulations, and laws associated with the organization's structure, mission, functionality, capabilities, and limitations related to key staff level functions, practices, and procedures. 2. Skill to apply a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of command level functions and programs for conducting military operations and related administrative programs. 3. Ability to demonstrate leadership and technical skills to identify developmental goals and objectives, develop comprehensive project plans and when necessary, direct ad hoc teams. 4. Ability to exercise a high degree of rapid innovation and initiative and make independent and timely decisions for resolving program and resource challenges and sound policies and guidance. 5. Ability to deliver high level written and oral products, to justify, defend, present, advocate, and/or advise on processes, actions, directives, and decisions impacting military operations. 6. Ability to persuasively interact with other senior management personnel from all branches of the service, as well as government officials to negotiate major issues of importance. 7. Ability to demonstrate leadership and technical skills to identify developmental goals and objectives, develop comprehensive project plans and when necessary, direct ad hoc teams.

  • This position is on-site and not eligible for remote or telework.
  • PCS and Incentives are not authorized.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance with eligibility to access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive (SS) information.
  • A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
  • May need to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs (SAP) required to perform daily duties.
  • This is a supervisory position.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
