This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Ft Walker, VA.

Duties

Serve as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. Exercise search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action. Collect and preserve evidence, conducts long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects and develops case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial. Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Operates motor vehicle which may involve high speed pursuit of suspects. Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts. Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. A
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires law enforcement certification and completion of the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP)/U.S. Army Military Police Law Enforcement Academy within the first year of employment, IAW 190-56.
  • This position has a requirement to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification IAW AR 190-56
  • This position requires that you complete and successfully pass an initial weapons qualification test and semi-annually throughout the length of the appointment.
  • This position requires Virginia certification in the operation of various radar equipment.
