This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 16), Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System, Environmental Service, Laundry Section. The primary reason for this position is to provide maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance of equipment and machinery located in the laundry plant including washer/dryers, and some types of industrial equipment.
Duties
Major Duties
- Disassemble, reassemble, install, and repair industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems, e.g., generators, (conveyor systems, air compressors, engine, and hydromantic dynamometers.)
- Determine the nature and extent of repairs
- Make repairs by replacing, reworking, and refinishing worn and damaged parts and components.
- Connect power sources
- Perform operational and functional tests
- Make required adjustments
- Ensure proper operation
- Install, replace, adjust, and set various regulating and safety devices
- Reassemble and install equipment, connect power sources perform operational and functional tests and make required adjustment for proper operation of the system(s).
- Installs, relocates, removes, modifies, and performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, repairs on all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, natural gas, steam, hot and cold systems
- Work involves the complete assembly/disassembly of equipment and replacement of worn parts
- Performs installation of motors, capacitors, fuses, replaces faulty wiring, magnetic float assemblies, and some electronic components
- Assists with sewer lift pump stations
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 07:00 am- 3:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the agency,

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Applicants with Laundry Equipment Certification and 3-5 years of experiences are preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy lifting 45 pounds and over, Heavy carrying 45 pounds and over, pushing 8 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 8 hours, standing 8 hours, crawling 2 hours, kneeling 8 hours, repeated bending 8 hours, climbing, use of legs and arms, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision corrected at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid may be permitted).
Working Conditions:
- Some hazards are involved when working around gas-fired equipment, as there is a danger of explosion.
- When working with high-pressure steam and air operated equipment there is a danger from heat and pressure.
- Required to work both inside and outside under extreme temperatures, in cramped spaces, on roofs, under buildings and in attics.
- Most of the work is indoor areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Such places are in the kitchen, laundry, and service rooms where the temperature is high in summer and low in winter. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery.
- They are frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines.
- Occasionally they climb and work from ladders and staging's exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered.
- Aware of all job specific health hazards and will wear the appropriate/required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety shoes, etc.
- Inform leader/supervisor of any unusual health hazards encountered for guidance, as necessary.
