This position is located at the VA Medical Center in North Little Rock, AR. The primary reason for this position is to provide maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance of equipment and machinery located in the laundry plant including washer/dryers, and some types of industrial equipment.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Disassemble, reassemble, install, and repair industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems, e.g., generators, (conveyor systems, air compressors, engine, and hydromantic dynamometers.) Make repairs by replacing, reworking, and refinishing worn and damaged parts and components Install, replace, adjust, and set various regulating and safety devices Reassemble and install equipment, connect power sources perform operational and functional tests and make required adjustment for proper operation of the system(s). Installs, relocates, removes, modifies, and performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, repairs on all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, natural gas, steam, hot and cold systems Assists with sewer lift pump stations Dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing conveyors and pneumatic tube systems, industrial plant support machinery and equipment; service, industrial waste and flood control equipment, compressors, pumps, and valves; and engraving machines, and automated industrial textile care systems Installs switches and electrical components on all industrial equipment Assists in the installation of new air-conditioning units Maintains garment presses, automatic spreader feeders, electronically controlled sheet press/folder, towel and garment folding machines, automated overhead rail systems, lint collectors, automated continuous batch washer and dryer systems (CBW), CBW presses, washer extractors, cart washers, and rolling stock Repair laundry trucks o Installs, relocates, removes, modifies, and performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repair laundry equipment and units Make fiberglass repairs on all laundry carts, baskets, and lint collectors Repairs scooters Repairs work trucks Repairs and replaces wheels, bearings, tires, casters Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Physical Effort - The work involves/requires push, pull, reach, walks, stand, crawl, keel, bend, and workin cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time and uncomfortable positions. Including times may be under machinery of all types for a sustained period. - Work under great physical demands, such as lifting weight more than fifty pounds, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawl, climbing, and standing for extreme time periods. - Leg, arm, and back muscles are used extensively. - Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally over for considerable distance. - Occasionally handles items weighting up to 100+ pounds. - Work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and mechanical lifts. Working Conditions - Some hazards are involved when working around gas-fired equipment, as there is a danger of explosion. - When working with high-pressure steam and air operated equipment there is a danger from heat and pressure. - Required to work both inside and outside under extreme temperatures, in cramped spaces, on roofs, under buildings and in attics. - Most of the work is indoor areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Such places are in the kitchen, laundry, and service rooms where the temperature is high in summer and low in winter. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. - They are frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. - Occasionally they climb and work from ladders and staging's exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. - Aware of all job specific health hazards and will wear the appropriate/required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety shoes, etc. - Inform leader/supervisor of any unusual health hazards encountered for guidance, as necessary. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
