The Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety. The Regional Augmentation Team (RAT) supports the Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) regional program and other AAM efforts in the performance of AAM employee’s primary duties, including preparation for and response to public health events affecting the aviation industry.

Duties

The Epidemiologist is responsible for initiating, designing, implementing, and evaluating epidemiologically valid inquiries and data descriptions supporting aviation communicable disease prevention and response. Enables continuous improvement of medical standards and processes to enhance the safety of the National Aerospace System.

Qualifications

Basic RequirementsDegree: Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.In addition to the above basic requirements:To qualify at the FV-J (FG/GS 14) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess one (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS 13) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.Specialized experience includes: experience with aviation medicine or medical impacts of flight operations; organization and interpretation of raw data suitable for epidemiological statistical analysis; designing and managing studies of public health problems; and collecting and analyzing data to find the causes of diseases or other health problems.Applicants should provide examples of Specialized Experience in their Work HistoryANDQuality Ranking Factor (QRF): Well qualified applicants will have experience in aerospace medicine epidemiology to include appropriate research design and statistical analysis techniques.If your qualifications for this position are based on education, you must submit a transcript of your college coursework by the closing date of the announcement.
