You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEM REPAIRER-OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS Department of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will monitor all equipment to maintain efficiency and control formation of pollutants including constant observation of flow meters and charts. You will operate equipment in a safe manner, applying established safety rules and regulations to minimize minor violations and to avoid major violations due to employee error or negligence. You will provide adequate amounts of chemicals to equipment as well as maintaining stocked levels. You will record oily waste transfers from ship to shore in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations. You will read instruments and gauges, record operating data, and maintain required plant operating logs.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Washington State Backflow Assembly Tester license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1) Assisting in maintaining and repairing power boilers and associated auxiliary equipment; 2) Applying knowledge of electronics and electronic controls and devices to coordinate repairs; 3) Assisting in performing basic electric work; test and replace wires, switches and other basic electrical components; and 4) Assisting in recording documentation on equipment for a few utility systems.
