The position is responsible for continuous monitoring of patients' cardiac rhythms at a central telemetry station and providing clinical and administrative support. Tasks include observing and recording ECG rhythms, performing phlebotomy, providing direct patient care such as vital signs, assisting with ADLs, and ensuring proper telemetry equipment function. The role requires knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias, telemetry equipment, and the ability to perform patient care duties.

Duties

Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms using telemetry equipment Recognize and report abnormal cardiac rhythms Provide direct patient care including vital signs and phlebotomy Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) Ensure proper telemetry equipment function and maintenance Perform emergency response actions when needed Communicate effectively with medical staff and patients Document patient data accurately and timely Work Schedule: Rotating shifts; nights/weekends/holidays (Compressed Schedule Available) Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Telemetry)/PD03465A Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Straight pulling (1 hours); Pushing (1-3 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (4 hours); Standing (2-7 hours); Kneeling (2 hours); Repeated bending (2 hours); Climbing, use of legs and arms; Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Specific visual requirement 20/40 DVA; corrected; Both eyes required; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted); Sitting (8 hours); Simple grasping (2-4 hours); Fine manipulation (including keyboarding 4-6 hours); Twisting (2 hours); Mental and emotional stability.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements, both the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) and the Grade Level Qualification Requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized Experience: Technician experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR, Education and Training: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Grade Level Requirements: GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to knowledge of a wide range of cardiac arrhythmias, effects on patients and treatment options while using telemetry equipment, including transmitters, central monitoring station, lead placement, patient prep and printers, trouble-shooting equipment when issues occur; using automated systems for documentation and patient charting; AND utilizing customer service skills when serving patients with varying mental behaviors, patient families and medical center personnel. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
