About the Position: Serves as a Derrickboat Operator with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, Light Capacity Fleet Unit, duty location Old Hickory, TN. Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, operates and maintains diesel, electric, and hydraulic powered derrickboats or floating cranes engaged in major maintenance and repair of locks and dams, channel maintenance activities, marine construction, and general hoisting services.
Duties
Operates mobile cranes having a hoisting capacity up to 100 tons for lifting and moving construction materials.
Performs, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and performs minor repairs to equipment on the derrickboats and cranes.
Directs and participates in the changing of cables on cranes.
Analyzes work plans or sequence of operations, and calculates required rigging for lifts, selects appropriate rigging.
Assists with training employees in the proper use of other load handling equipment, such as overhead cranes, manual hoists, and duties as a signal person and rigger.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must currently possess and be able to maintain the appropriate crane operators license for the type and capacity of cranes operated in this position.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- TDY travel is required to remote sites throughout the region.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in accomplishment of assigned duties.
- Incumbent will be required to have an initial and annual physical exam.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Operator Derrickboat without more than normal supervision. Have experience as a Derrickboat Operator assisting a journeyman Derrickboat Operator with crane or derrick, lattice boom or hydraulic boom services such as wrecking, removing obstructions, submarine drilling and blasting, repairing breakwaters, construction and repair of docks, and pile driving. Experience assisting with barge handling, including anchoring, mooring, positioning and towing.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently performs lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to dangers inherit to derrickboat operations, such as overturning boat, drowning, falling, being struck by loads. The possibility exists of sustaining cuts and bruises in connection with repair activities. Works indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions.
