About the Position: This position is with the United States Army Reserve Command, Office of the Secretary of the General Staff, Army Reserve History located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Duties

Develop training program to aid USAR Command subordinate unit historian and historical officers in proper historical reporting. Direct and oversee subordinate command historical activities for the United States Army Reserve (USAR). Act as liaison with HQ FORSCOM and the Organizational History Branch in the Center of Military History on matters pertaining to USAR unit lineage and honors, and with the Army Institute of Heraldry on heraldic matters affecting the USAR. Review historical segments of program documents of subordinate commands for compliance with overall command and agency programs. Manage subordinate command historical collection activities conducted for capturing the role of the Army Reserve in military operations. Write historical manuscripts based on research of subject matters related to the Army Reserve and Army missions.

Basic Requirement for Historian (Publications): Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology; or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Conducting primary and secondary source research on military organizational and operational history; Analyzing and interpreting significant military historical data for delivering oral and written communications; Planning, researching, and preparing original historical studies, monographs, briefings, chronologies, vignettes and other products that furnish perspective to current and historic military issues; and Preserving and storing historical evidence that provide guidance for operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, no substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted.
