About the Position: This position is with the United States Army Reserve Command, Office of the Secretary of the General Staff, Army Reserve History located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.
Duties
Plan and prepare the USARC Annual Command History using professional historical methodology and techniques.
Write special studies and monographs for publication.
Manage the USAR historical records collection process by maintaining a command-wide historical document collection program.
Manage historical publications by directing the USARC Publication Program and conducting review and evaluation of work of other professional historians.
Conduct research to provide answers to requests for information and historical inquiries.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Basic Requirement for Historian (Publications):
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
or
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
Performing research of established methods and techniques of historical research in the collection, evaluation, analysis or presentation of historical facts and performing duties such as: conducting primary and secondary source research on historical topics that research and detail a major historical topic with additional research and treatment of related topics;
Conducting extensive research, providing effective analysis, and delivering sophisticated oral and written communications;
Planning, researching, and preparing original studies, monographs, briefings, booklets, articles, scripts, chronologies, exhibit labels, vignettes and other products that furnish detailed historical background and perspective to current and historic issues;
Researching military historical data, evidence, and facts to analyze and interpret significant actions; and
Preserving and storing historical evidence to provide guidance for operations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, no substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
