Duties
Evaluates complaints or allegations received through the OIG's Hotline or referred to the OIG through others. Receives and evaluates complaints from various sources both internal and external to the organization.
Conducts in-depth and complex criminal, civil and administrative investigations into crimes dealing with false statements, misappropriation of Government funds, theft, embezzlement, bribery, contract/procurement fraud, and conspiracy.
Develops leads, informants, and other sources of information in conducting complex investigations for violation of federal laws into GPO procurement programs.
Prepares reports of investigation (ROI) containing highly complex issues involving GPO contract and procurement programs.
Obtains and records information relating to complaints, which may allege fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement and/or misconduct; prepares written referrals to OIG component offices for initiating audits or investigations.

- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
- Selectee must undergo a background investigations for a secret clearance
- Confidential Financial Disclosure Report may be required.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify

To qualify for the Criminal Investigator, GI - 1811 - 14 , you must meet the following requirements:
In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess one year of experience at the GI-13 (or equivalent) level or higher. Specialized experience is defined as: conducting, criminal, civil, and administrative investigations; providing technical advice or recommendations on investigative activities; coordinating investigation activities with Federal, state, or local law enforcement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may/may not be used or this grade level.
