You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIATION HEALTH DIVISION, CODE 105.84 of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will provide technical expertise in refining and developing analytical approaches, techniques, and methods related to the Radiological Affairs Support Program (RASP). You will be responsible for planning, executing, and writing procedures to accomplish the personnel exposure control program for San Diego Detachment. You will investigate, resolve, document, and review circumstances surrounding unusual dosimetry occurrences. You will perform technical analysis and evaluation for dosimetry investigations and problems. You will operate and maintain complex dosimetry processing systems. You will be responsible for conducting personnel dosimetry investigations to determine personnel exposures in cases where malfunction of equipment or discrepancies are identified. You will interpret and review analytic results and ensure that results are accurate, and that analysis was performed in accordance with specified techniques and requirements. You will be responsible for developing and implementing training programs, evaluating results of training programs, and developing and implementing procedures for more efficient technical operations. You will review and evaluate Radiation Health aspects of medical records You will develop and maintain a database to track environmental samples and associated data used for analysis. You will identify and investigate problems that could result in radiological insult to the environment and members of the general population and provides assessments of actions taken by radiological engineering personnel for those problems. You will be responsible for a significant role in the event of and preparation for any type of radiological emergency. You will apply knowledge of associated disciplines such as: mathematics, statistics, physics, nuclear physics, chemistry, and biology.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector identifying and investigating radiological issues to provide recommendations to correct deficiencies and minimize radiation exposure for the assurance and safety of the industrial radiation health program.
