You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Radiological Control Office of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will manage all waterfront and building radiological monitoring operations for the detachment, providing technical direction and guidance in accordance with established regulations. You will control personnel exposure to ionizing radiation, protection against radioactive contamination, and protect the general public against radiation associated with nuclear propulsion plants. You will manage the program to support San Diego area's radiological emergency medical response plan. You will represent the Branch and Division at meeting and conferences and coordinate work with other organizations. You will ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and local Shipyard rules and other federal, state, and city regulations regarding safety, health and environmental issues.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
• You will be required to climb stairs and ladders and perform outdoor investigative duties during inclement weather.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector developing and executing a radiological controls program in connection with the overhaul, refueling, inactivation, recycling or testing of nuclear reactor plants.
