Duties

Collect hazardous waste in preparation for disposal. Maintain Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with regulations. Operate a forklift used for transporting waste containers/drums. Perform inventory checks on hazardous waste material. Identify hazardous material to appropriate areas within activity, in accordance with Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".

I can identify all hazardous waste/material in accordance with applicable environmental regulations, federal and state guidelines; ensure all drums/containers are marked/label contents and ensure all required documentation is attached to drums/containers for transportation. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work regularly requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing and working in uncomfortable positions in the storage area and at waste/spill sites. Lifts and moves items weighing up to 50 pounds, and uses handling equipment or assistance to lift heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Is exposed to the possibility of asphyxiation and chemical burns from toxic fumes and spills of waste materials. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones, sprains, falls, etc. during on-site work and inspections or when loading or unloading vehicle. Must wear personal protective gear as directed, including a respirator. Work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is exposed to all types of traffic where there is possibility of serious accidents.
