Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12 If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a/an IT Specialist, you will:
Apply IT security principles and methods sufficient to develop long range plans for IT security systems that identify violations and recommend corrective actions and provide input in drafting information systems security documentation (e.g., disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans.
Monitor the LAN configuration to ensure it meets the Departmental standards and monitoring its use to both ensure compliance with these specifications and ensure a high-performance level within the regional jurisdiction.
Ensure national standards regarding security administration, user registration, facilities, Continuity of Operating Planning (COOP) and business resumption plans for reporting offices, coordination of the Computer Emergency Response Team functions, and use of the Field IT Procedures Guide are implemented within the ASC jurisdiction.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Providing guidance, support, and assistance to customers with desktop applications; AND
- Evaluating the quality of IT services provided to clients, and adjusting or recommending procedure or policy changes to improve services; AND
- Providing guidance and recommendations to management or technical specialists on IT issues.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-11 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Providing guidance, support, and assistance to customers with desktop applications; AND
- Evaluating the quality of IT services provided to clients, and adjusting or recommending procedure or policy changes to improve services.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-09 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Providing guidance, support, and assistance to customers with desktop applications.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Education
